Do you show favoritism to certain jellies on giving GA's or do you give GA's only for what you think, is a great answer?

Asked by BoBo1946 (15325points) July 9th, 2010

I do both. i’ve noticed some jellies are generous and some are not. after all, there are very few great answers…good yes, great…no!

Also, do you not give certain people GA’s because, well, you just don’t like them. If a jelly attacks you, do you ever give them GA’s again, or, you are finished with them? In other words, do you give them a second chance? after all, everyone has a bad day occasionally.

Tell me what you are a “thinkin!”

I NEVER take it personal.

Even the jellies that I “lock horns” with from time to time. Will still get a GQ or a GA from me.

Because… I NEVER take anything or anyone personal here. :-)

I have even given a GA to some that were creative at trying to push my buttons.

GAs deserve GA no matter who said it. I have given GAs to jellies I have clashed with in the threads.

I give a GA because it is 1) A Great Answer or 2) a witty riposte or 3) to encourage a new jellie.

I’m easy what I can say? :P I would never exclude someone just because, if you answer the question or have an interesting question I give some lurve. :)

I haven’t been here long enough to have favourites, so for now, i only give GA’s for answers that i like. But i do it on other sites similar to these as well – the favouritism thingie…hehe. So i may get generous with GA’s later on.
Also, if i don’t like someone for some reason that i won’t waiver on, i’ll never give them any good ratings. Cat haters come to mind, i just don’t like such folk. And other generally heartless and inconsiderate individuals, they won’t get any GA’s from me either, once i find out who they are. And neither will i talk to them unless we’re having a serious debate about some issue that i disagree with them about.
But, i’m not a meanie, so. :) Just sayin’.

@ChazMaz push your button…good luck…loll

I give GA’s to anything I think is a GA. Most of the time when reading answers, I don’t really pay attention to who posted the answer.

JLeslie's avatar

I have never thought to give a GA or not give a GA on the basis of whether I like someone or not. I give a GA for a Great Answer. Many times I don’t notice you wrote an answer, as @Seaofclouds mentioned, I look to see who wrote it kind of after the fact, except for some very particular subjects, and if two people are really going at it back and forth it is difficult to ignore who is writing.

I don’t tie my good answer or question praise to the person.

Yet, I have been surprised to find myself giving props to people who usually make me long for a “gag” button.

Jude's avatar

For a great answer. Also, for anyone who answers my question.

A GA is a GA is a GA. Some people are just better at writing GA’s.

I give credit where credit is due. I am sometimes surprised at who it was that was the author of such a great question or answer. Give people a chance and they may just amaze you! Gosh this sounds like I am being condescending but honestly I am not!

jonsblond's avatar

I’ll admit, sometimes I favor the newbs. :)

BoBo1946's avatar

@jonsblond me four my friend!

I always GA and GQ newbies – to encourage them. We were all new at one point. @BoBo1946 writes crap – so I never GA him ~. Some of the others I give evrul – lurve in reverse which actually takes away their lurve points.

Facade's avatar

Sometimes, but my favoritism extends from my admiration of their answers overall. Most of the time, I just GA a great answer.

ubersiren's avatar

Nope. Although, I will admit that for the one or two people who have definitely offended me to sickness (including one red-haired chick that ain’t here no mo’) it pains me to give a GA, but I end up giving it anyway. With resentment! But I still give it.

BoBo1946's avatar

yah yah yah yah and yah @zenele AND, gave you a lurve for insulting my innocent and sweet self! (sniff sniff) poor me!

zenele's avatar

@BoBo1946 Oh, go blow your lawn.

BoBo1946's avatar

@zenele actually, that is what i need to be doing…but, wasting my time here with “jelly bellies” like yourself! loll…yeeehaaaaaaa

zenele's avatar

Looking down at my protruding, rotund excuse for a stomach – I am the definition of a jelly belly. Time to hit the gym, again. I hear blowing lawns is good exercise.

I read (or skim) the text. Only if it is rather good (or bad) do I take notice of the icon/handle. (Rather like a cop deciding on the ticket before seeing the driver.) Flowers and dogs and cats and jellyfish icons are kind of all the same to me, so I’m still able to do that. Only with someone’s face do I identify with historical posts before I read – I think.

I give GA/GQs more often to those that impart some kind of interesting deflection from my own thought (vs. just a well written [or wordy] version of what I was already thinking, which probably gets a “ho-hum” pass more often than it should.

I value personal bang-on anecdotes as much or more than well written answers.

I devalue simpleton wit.

I definitely grade on my criteria in the [social] section, and on the OPs in the [general]. I wish the [general] area was blue background or sometthing different so I could more intuitively understand which hat I’m to wear when answering.

All that said, I definitely pride myself on giving a GA to a GA regardless of who wrote it.

BoBo1946's avatar

@ipso you would not give me many lurves then… (I devalue simpleton wit.) that would be me…but, that is cool in the scheme of things, if we all were the same, what a dull World it would be my friend! Thank you for your answer! And, GA for you!

augustlan's avatar

I’m like @ubersiren… I will basically clench my teeth and give a GA to someone I can’t stand, if their answer deserves it. I also withhold GAs from very good friends if I disagree with their answer. Not to mention modding good friends when they deserve it!

Coloma's avatar

Yes, it s all based on merit of answer, regardless of personal like.

However…I won’t give a GA to anyone that has proven themselves to be of questionable character. One learns as they go, all in all, I am a generous type and would only with hold based on strong moral convictions.

I enjoy being generous.

Aster's avatar

I give GA’s to people I’m not that crazy about. It’s like complimenting someone who deserves it.

Your_Majesty's avatar

I score their answer not their reputation. I usually GA someone who answer my question, especially the one who give me what I ask for. I tend to ignore some people that I consider as troll here. I’ll do nothing but flag them, they don’t even deserve my comment, and I won’t waste my time playing with them.

OpryLeigh's avatar

As much as I really like certain people here, I only give GA’s or GQ’s if I think they deserve it. If I have enjoyed aswering a question or reading what someone has answered then I give lurve. I am very generous with my lurve giving though!

BoBo1946's avatar

Thank you my friends!

There are extremely few people on Fluther who insulted me in a really ugly way and never apologized for it. I have forgiven them, but decided no more GAs no matter how good the answers are. To me a GA is also a way of saying thank you with a smile. Thank you for this great, well-written answer. It should be done with an honest smile, not a forced one.

I do believe some people on here are more likely to get more GQ or GA than others because of their popularity on here. I myself am completely unbiased when I give QA or GQ. I also notice some people are treated more nasty on here than others. I believe the moderators do a good job however. Ironically many people on here I have had many disagreements with I will still give GA/GQ to (whether they are aware of it or not). There are definitely “cliques” on here that I believe contribute to many GA/GQ ratings however.
