Is it much slower to edit HD video?

I’m helping a friend choose a camera.

One of the downsides of HD that is clear is that it will take longer to upload.

I would like to know if there will also be a much longer time to edit/render in comparison to normal video.

I think I read that the HD codec is much more efficient and byte-efficient, but am not sure about the resources needed to edit and produce a final piece.
