I was so angry and heard this frightening roaring sound in my ears!

Asked by janedelila (3904points) July 11th, 2010

It scared me and I felt I was losing control. Has anyone ever heard this in their head?

Every time! When I get really peeved, I go for a drive with the windows down or blast up river in the boat and roaring is all I hear no matter how loud I put on the stereo!

I felt I had to stop it, like fight it down. Incidentally @Simone_De_Beauvoir I took that out back of the school when I noticed there was a gap in my shadow. I don’t go back there anymore….

It appears in fiction, stuff about blood roaring in your ears. I had always supposed it to be hyperbole.

@janedelila the sound you heard was the same thing the Incredible Hulk would hear before turning mean and green. I say roll with it next time.

Nope, but this one time i was so exhausted and over worked from climbing this one mountain, that i could hear my heartbeat in my ears.

I’ve never gotten the roaring, but I did once see red. Like you, I thought the whole “seeing red” and “roaring in the head” think was just literary license, but I organize the copwatch program here, so I have a lot of contact with some very obnoxious pigs on a regular basis. After one particularly unpleasant interaction (the officer was eventually given an unofficial reprimand for demanding identification as an intimidation tactic), I stood with my arms crossed beside the person who had been the target of the police harassment while the cop sat in his car, staring back, each of us waiting for the other one to leave. Eventually the cop rolled down his window and said, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Like what?” I asked.

“Like you want to pop me one in the face.”

When I was young, my father would tell me to “wipe that look off your face before I wipe it off for you,” and if I couldn’t get a neutral expression up fast enough I’d get a cuff in the head. This interaction with the cop triggered the most incredible rage, and I began literally seeing red. It was terrifying, the whole world turned shades of red, like I was seeing through a sheet of blood. The shock of it was enough to cool my anger, fortunately.

@janedelila wow, I have no idea where to find it – but I’ll try hard to.

Sometimes, I wake up thinking I hear a noise.

@janedelila

Sounds like your blood pressure is elevated. You should see your physician as soon as possible.
