Check out Cha-Ching (http://www.chachingapp.com), Aurora (http://metaquark.de/aurora/), and many other freeware applications are out there too. John Gruber’s Daring Fireball (http://www.daringfireball.net) is a good way to keep track of news and activity within the Mac community, and he often makes good recommendations in terms of things to try. You’ve already been recommended Disco and AppZapper.

Which applications you choose depend largely on what you would like to do with your Mac. I find that iusethis (http://osx.iusethis.com/) is a good website for browsing and finding popular Mac applications, as is the Apple Downloads for Mac OS X catalogue (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/).
