Buying a campervan in Perth (mediation?)

Asked by desmodus (158points) July 13th, 2010

I am travelling to perth in mid ocober, and am planning to buy a small campervan there (ford econovan or similar).

I have found sites like gumtree, but they are people 2 people sales. And I would like to know if there perhaps is a mediation company in Perth? eg. that I pay to buy a set van, and bring it to a garage for servicing, so it will be ready upon arrival in Perth?

Since we are requiring a van that can legally seat 4, the amount availble online is quite few. We would hate to be stuck for weeks trying to find a suitable van.

Any suggestions?

There is a forum here

http://www.exploroz.com

If you ask the question there, someone might know.

I know there are lots on ebay.com.au but if you want a dealer in the middle I don’t know where to tell you to go.

Have you considered renting? There are many companies who rent campers.

If you buy, I assume you are looking for a used one?

@rooeytoo I wasn’t quite clear I see. Yes, I am looking for a used camper.

The problem with renting is that it will cost about $14.000 for 4 months. The same price as buying a reasonable used Toyota Hi-ace or Ford Econovan.

I will ask my mate in the morning, he is a great researcher of such. I’ll let you know if he has any suggestions.

My mate says check out

http://rac.com.au/

That is the automobile club of WA. He thinks they will inspect a vehicle for you (for a fee of course). I would suggest getting in contact with them and see what they have to say. As Ian points out, a “good vehicle” is so subjective, it is a difficult call.
