My amplifier is randomly shutting off, what could it be?

Asked by pikipupiba (1629points) July 14th, 2010

I have a Yamaha R-V1105 amplifier.

When I listen to music or anything really at any ‘decent’ level for a few minutes it just starts shutting off. Then when I try to start it up again it shuts of instantly unless the volume is turned down ridiculously low.

Why would it do this and how do I fix it?

Does hot weather make it happen? Some electronics have a safety thermal shut-off.

If that is the issue, keeping the vents clear (don’t stack stuff on top) and vacuuming the guts can help.
