How do I go about getting an engineering internship in Tokyo?

Asked by jackm (6212points) July 17th, 2010

I would like to get a summer engineering internship in Tokyo next year. Does anyone know any programs or businesses that can help me accomplish this?

It will be the summer before my senior year, and I am an electrical engineer. I have pretty good grades, and have a better resume than most.

If anyone has connections, ideas, experience, etc in this area I would appreciate it very much.

The best place to start when looking for employment or an internship is your own network of family, friends, etc. Think through your connections—there might be someone therein who works in the industry, or who knows somebody. It’s said that a majority of people find a job through someone they know. A friend who knows a friend who knows a friend that works in Tokyo, as far-fetched as it seems, could be the place to start. Get contacts in the area, tap your own social network (especially alumni resources from your college or university that will often favor fellow grads), and start asking questions. More often than not, this will lead you to that perfect summer engineering internship. Best of luck!

Hey, I find you exactly along my lines. I am also currently a junior year Electrical Engineering student, means that I will be in my senior year in fall 2011. I was also searching for internships related to my field of study for the upcoming summers, and find Tokyo, or any other Japanese city to be the best. So kindly keep me updated, if possible.
