Will Motorola Mileston get froyo update?

Asked by joon1986 (185points) July 24th, 2010

Hi,
As far as I can tell….Droid and milestone is almost identical except some minor features.
but when it comes to froyo update…it looks like there are big difference between them
I have seen few youtube videos of people using froyo on Droid
but not a single video of milestone user using froyo yet
froyo update is very important as it improves the performance of the phone!!! and milestone really needs one
Without froyo update….milestone is not that attractive..:(
Do you guys know what is going on and why milestone won’t get an update (or device cannot handle the update???)
share your knowledge please
THANKS

Milestone May Not Get Android 2.2 Update

Course, you could probably root the phone and do a manual update.

Motorola haven’t confirmed that they are bringing 2.2 to the Milestone and claim they are deciding how to proceed. Here’s an article about it.

Edit: same link as response above, posted at the same time so ignore me.

@bluemukaki
thanks for the article…I read it and understand motorola haven’t decide whether to provide an update or not…
@papayalily
I don’t know anything about “root” but guessing it is jailbreak kinda thing for android devices?? I will do my own research on root but meanwhile…..can you tell me simply what root does to the phone ???
oh..and during previous research what I remember is that people with unofficial update has wifi issue…has this problem been solved or still no wifi with unofficial update?

@joon1986 Rooting is jailbreaking for Androids. It’s simply taking control of your device, like taking ownership of your hard drive on Windows. Manual updates will probably have some kinks.
