Objective C 2.0?

Asked by dpena2009 (218points) March 21st, 2008 from iPhone

Doe anyone know where I could find a beginner’s tutorial for Objective C 2.0 for someone who’s never written a single line of code?

Try http://cocoadevcentral.com/
I’ve found this one also reasonably good: http://www.otierney.net/objective-c.html
Be aware that most is not specifically 2.0; just objective-c. But that shouldn’t really be a problem.
And just plough your way through the Apple docs; they are essential, although there’s only really one overly simple tutorial.
And keep in mind that some background in C is rather convenient. If you’ve never written any code, don’t expect any nice results soon: start very simple, and slowly expand that.
Other than that: questions re objective C are probably more suited on one of the Apple forums, or another mailing list; should get you a better response.

If you’ve never written a single line of code, start with Stephan Kochan’s Programming in Objective-C, then progress to Aaron Hillegass’s Cocoa Development for Mac OS X.

They both cover pre-2.0 Objective-C, but if you’ve never written a single line of code, that won’t hurt—there’s so much to cover that you can pick up the few new features of Objective-C 2.0 from Apple documentation after you’ve come to terms with everything else.

Oh, and expect it to take 3 to 4 years to get reasonably proficient—longer, if you’re a slow learner. There’s no royal road to knowledge in programming.
