Was my husband automatically registered for the selective service when he received his resident alien card?

my husband would like to apply for US citizenship he did not now about registering for selective service but was he automatically registered?

No. All American males have to register when they turn 18. It is not automatic for anyone that I know of. If he is not a citizen, he doesn’t even have to register with the selective service.

I would assume no. Go ahead and register.

I“m a citizen. My parents and grandparents were citizens. I am in my 40s. And I still had to document my Selective Service registration for a job.

No, he has to register.

@missingbite being a non citizen does not preclude you from registering. Even if you are an undocumented alien, by law, you have to register.

@WestRiverrat While it is a requirement for Naturalization, it is not required for him if all he is going to do is have a green card. My point was that until he decides to start the process of becoming a citizen, he doesn’t have to register. He also may not have to register if he is over 26 years of age.
