I need a name for the main characters father in a book I'm writing.

Asked by Air_Real92 (40points) August 1st, 2010

I need a name for the main characters father. He IS a vampire, but I’m not sure if I’m going to make him the main villain or not yet but i do know so far that he’s not a nice guy. Any ideas??

Just pick a name. You can change it later to what suits him best as the character develops.

Go with popular names of whatever century he was born in.

Ruphus… don’t ask me why :)

It’s a little rote, mechanical and lacking in innate creativity but you might try this. Just fooling around with it might lead you to something.

Now that I have been helpful and on topic, I have to say that if you want input from everyone for so much of your book, you should probably not be writing it yet. Asking for help for various parts tends to lead to things like people claiming later… with website proof to back it up, that they had input and can claim part of your royalties, if it ever sells. If you are writing it, then you should write it, not we are writing it.

Hey, my family is from Transylvania… I know these things.

Ok, seriously, just do not go with they typical overblown names these books have.

Just name him after your own father, I’m assuming this is going to be a Mary Sue story anyway. Vampires!... grumble.. grumble…. AND GET YOUR DAMN SKATEBOARD OFF MY LAWN!... grumble.. grumble….. walks away…

What if you just named him something normal so no one would suspect him when he’s revealed as the villain? His name could be something like Paul Farson. Nobody would ever expect him to suddenly turn into a vampire and drink the blood of unsuspecting children…

Seriously though, I have never met a Paul who didn’t turn out be a serial killer.

Peter, James (Jim), Sherlock Holmes The First insert last name

There is no way I can name your character.

I know nothing about him – his age, his family, his background… all of these will affect the name his parents chose for him. Hell, he’s a freaking vampire in a fantasy novel – he could very well have chosen his own name and ditched his given name.

How about twisting things around and give everyone else exotic names and have the vampire with something mundane like Joe Johnson?

This book is something i won’t have published it’s just something for my personal collection. this is the only story I’ve written that I actually want just for myself because i love vampires, which is why I’m asking for peoples help because i don’t have to worry about my royalties.
