Anyone in need of a pickup this Monday AM? Do you have a little story you would like to share to get the day going?

I have a friend with whom I used to get together with for unconventional reasons. We’d enjoy whatever was on hand. Once, it was homemade apple pie and some exotic beer. It stuck. Now, it’s, “Hey. Wanna get together for some beer and pie?”

@MissA Thank you. I’m officially picked up. :)

That was easy, my dear!

My neighbors daughter is 2.5 years old. her mother had just prepared a tub bath for her. she had all her favorite toys surrounding her. daughter is just settling into her tub of water, when suddently she looks up at her mother and states, “you can leave now. i’ll be out of pocket for a while”. could not believe this came out of the mouth of a 2.5 year old baby. her mother could not grab the phone fast enough to call my wife and tell her.

My son will be two this month, and I can’t believe all the things he says now.

We were on a long drive, it was close to naptime, we were out of juice, and he was not happy. After a few cries of “I’m stuck! I’m stuck!” and fighting with his carseat belt, he stops, huffs and puffs, and says

“Mama?”

“Yes, baby?”

“Help me!”

“What do you need?”

“Mama help me. I need a beer.”

Kids are always good for funny material!

Yesterday I was talking to my five year old and noticed him staring at my chin, where I had this lovely little zit. He gets a concerned look on his face and says, “Mom, did you pop your nipple?”

@MissA are you talking about REAL beer and pie?...or like metaphorical beer…and pie.

I’m always “picked up” by things my kids say. My mother in law was once talking to my oldest, who was 5 at the time, and was explaining to her about something on her cell phone. My daughter looked at her, reached for the phone and said “Technically, Nonnie, it woks like this. Here, I’ll show you.” Cracked me up. She was showing her how to paint pictures on the phone.

My youngest, who is 4, likes to describe her nightmares to me in vivid detail. The other morning, she told me she had dreamed about this “Horrible, Ginormous, Freaky, Terrifying, Really Really Really Ugly Fire Zombie” who was trying to spit fire on her. She claims it “popped into her head” from a Scooby Doo movie. What got me laughing was the look on her face when she was giving me all those adjectives.

@Dewey420 i’m talking real beer and pie here. Well, except for that pumpkin ale I bought once. That’s enough to make a real beer lover wonder whether you’re a closet fraud! We’ve done apple and Blue Moon as well as other more adventurous pairings.

Dewey420's avatar

@MissA ok…i didn’t get the closet fraud analogy. is pumpkin ale good?

I was simply saying that a traditional beer drinker might think pumpkin ale to be less than a real beer. The pumpkin ale was alright, but perhaps pairing it with pumpkin pie would have made all the difference.

@MissA i see now. I love beer to taste. my favorite is Black and Tan (half guiness half Bass) rich and goood. i don’t like pale ales. always looking for new rich beer..apple sounds good too.

I rarely drink beer anymore, ‘cept for special occasions, like the above. Yes, on the Black and Tan. Tasty.

I didn’t like beer at all until my taste buds grew up, around 30. Because of health reasons, I cannot drink freely…but, I never drank much anyway.
