What are the best Nintendo DSi games for a 4y.o. girl?

Asked by desmodus (158points) August 2nd, 2010

I just bought a DSi for our 4 year old daughter, and want to buy some games with it. But find it hard to decide on 2 screenshots and a few lines of text on the back.

Does anyone have any experience with good games for their children? And can name me some titles?

IMO, a 4 year old should not have a DSi at all. My daughter did not get a video system until she was 8. And even 8 may still be a little young for that. But a 4 year old with a video system? Ridiculous.

And we wonder why we’re having major issues with children displaying symptoms of ADD and children becoming obese at younger and younger ages…

Is she able to read now? If yes, then ‘Cooking Mama’ series would be the best idea. It’s quite constructive for your children. They might like/know how to cook someday.

@WillWorkForChocolate I knew I would get these narrow viewed answers to this question. This is what was being said when the radio came to replace books, and when TV came to replace radio. It is so easy to put the blame on the new media.
ADD and obesity are mostly to blame to the parents, but that is a whole different subject. This is meant to be a ‘light’ question.

But let me please explain my question a bit.. there are plenty of educational games on Nintendo, that is the reason why we got it and not a PSP. It is not a console to play first person shooters etc. on, it is meant to be constructive.

ADD and obesity are mostly the parents’ fault, yes. But that’s because instead of the parents making sure their children are getting plenty of exercise and sunshine, they are parking their kids in front of TVs and video games. You sit there like a zombie, watching a screen instead of giving your body what it needs. My kids get TV time and my oldest gets video game time, but they also play board games as a family, play “games” with educational flash cards and play outside a LOT. Not to mention their other activities like swim team and gymnastics.

Like I said, it’s my “opinion”, but I think a 4 year old having a personal gaming system is ridiculous.

@WillWorkForChocolate We are taking our kids on a 5 month trip through Indonesia and Australia, that is why we bought the console. A 18hr flight and various car trips can use a bit of entertainment. And since we decided a portable DVD had little educational value, we decided on the console.

I wonder if Brainage has a 4-year-old setting
