Is there a way to change my username on Facebook and keep my current account active?

Asked by Roby (2939points) August 8th, 2010

I don’t like the name I chose because it really does not reflect my age or personality. I just feel it should be changed.

Click on “Account” (upper right corner) and go into Settings. The first page allows you to change your name.

It’s actually against the terms and conditions to use anything but your real legal name on Facebook. You can request that they change it but they will refuse if they think that the name you’re changing it to is not your real one. They may ask for proof of ID.

My SO’s nephew does it on a fairly regular basis, be it within the FB guidelines or not. Just follow @jerv ‘s instructions. @downtide has a good point though. You may want to read up on the regulations if you are thinking about changing both first and last name to something unrecognizable.

I think he’s wanting to change his username, not his name. You can do that with similar instructions to @jerv.‘s Click on Account then Account Settings. Then click “change” next to the Username section. Note you can only change this once, so make it count.

OK folks I must admit I inadvertently said Facebook but I meant to say Go Comics.com
The comics where you leave a comment.

In that case, you must register for a new account.
