Why does Photoshop crash so often?

Alright, I am starting to get really sick of this. I’m running Photoshop CS4 on a MacBook Pro and Photoshop crashes literally every single time I use it. I’ve had this problem since day one, just never used Photoshop much, so I didn’t notice, but now it’s getting to really annoy me.
Additionally, I’ll press CTRL+Q to exit Photoshop and it will and then later I’ll get a notification that it “closed unexpectedly”.
Has anyone else had problems with Photoshop CS4 on a Mac?
