Why do I have these phobias?

Asked by Moondancer (2points) August 9th, 2010

ok I have a big phobia. One phobia I have I guess is called entomophobia. I dont get it though I can see a roach and kill it nothing to it, but when I see more then one or in a bunch I’d like to say I start sweating screaming, I get dizzy my heart races an occationally pass out. I am kinda the same way with spiders and mice. Pretty much anything insect wise or rodent wise except flies. Also I have a fear of going anywhere whether its in the house or outside in the dark. Im ok if there are people around me I am not scared but when I am by myself I will make excuses to go outside. Then finally, I cant go out in the sun. I think it is because I got second degree burns a coup;e years ago and now going out in the sun is hard for me. Am I ok or do I need some sort of mental help?

I would suggest trying some hypnotherapy, its fairly cost effective and a good way to get to the root cause of your problems.

My opinion: I HATE ALL BUGS, AND THEY DESERVE A PAINFUL DEATH BECAUSE ALL THEY ARE, IS JUST NASTY DISTURBING PEST. thats just my opinion. Well, I can say that its absolutely normal to have fears/phobias, just about everyone I know is afraid of spiders. Im sort of the same way when it comes to squishing them, the bigger they are the less likely im going to get any where near them. I have this fear that when Im going to hit them, that its going to jump on me before i have the chance to hit it. No offense, but you may have to go to a psychiatrist for help. NOT SAYING YOUR CRAZY OR INSANE OR ANYTHING! its just that if you have a problem, you need to go get help for it. Nothing to be ashamed of, and plus there is nothing wrong with you. :)

Everyone is afraid of something. However, if your fears are interfering with your quality of life, it’s time to get some therapy and learn how to overcome them.

You aren’t crazy. You’re phobic. Phobias by nature are mostly illogical.

Most can be eliminated (or at least managed) in as little as a 12 wk. course of BEHAVIORAL Therapy.

I went through that and it worked. Why would you want to continue living such a limited life if there is help available.

You are not crazy. You don’t need a Psychiatrist. You want a behavioral therapist.

As strange as it may sound, exploring WHY is not nearly as important as it may seem. HOW to live your life without being shackled by this is far more important.

Once you deal with it so it doesn’t paralyze you with fear, if you want to waste some more time and money exploring why you had it (past tense) then go right ahead if you’re that curious.

Most people don’t bother. They’re just glad to be free of it. :)

Just to clarify, by therapy I meant exactly what @Buttonstc said. Not deep, mind-probing talk therapy… just cognitive behavioral therapy. Usually this involves building up your tolerance levels by exposing you to your fear(s) a little at a time. It can be very helpful!
