How to hang my hammock without trees?

Asked by sarahsugs (2906points) March 23rd, 2008

I have a great hammock I want to hang in my backyard, but I don’t have room for a hammock stand, nor are there trees that are big enough. I can use the side of our neighbor’s shed for one end, and I am thinking of using a post for the other end. I found this post on-line: http://www.hammockstock.com/algoma-hammocks/removable—inchin-ground-inch-hammock-post/839.htm
I can’t find reviews of it and am wondering if a simple wooden post set in concrete would be better, or if there is some other way of hanging it that I am not thinking of. Obviously I want it to be safe and sturdy, and I want to be able to take it inside during bad weather. Any tips?

I’m sure a post set in concrete would be fine. Have you asked your neighbor about using his shed?

Yep, it’s cool.

Make sure the hole with concrete is at least 2’ deep. I would just use a 4×4 post rather than that pole you are looking at. It will be sturdier and most likely a few dollars cheaper.

Edit: Looking at the price of your pole, you will most likely save over $50 usia a wooden pole.

I completely agree with Eambos.

@blunkhouse Did you read the deatails? She said she didn’t have room for a hammock stand.

I also agree with the hammock stand. I have one and IMO it doesn’t take up any more room than would two posts; plus a bonus is you can move of around with ease. Remember that with two posts you still have to space them beyond the hammock frame to set tension on the ends of the ropes. The base of a hammock stand doesn’t protrude beyond the frame.

Hmmm, okay, thanks for the tips, all.
