Do you live in a city or town with a lot of stupid people? Can you top this?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) August 13th, 2010

We have a lot of idiots in this upstate NY city. This morning, I drove by the local bank driveup, which has four lanes. All four lanes are open. There are two cars in the driveup. The second car is in line behind the first car. Huh?

Where my g/f lives (somewhere in Michigan), they have some ridiculous drivers. Driving 35 in a 50 and you’re not able to pass. Often times you’ll have 5 or 6 cars following behind that driver. This goes on for a good mile or two. Drives me insane, and you’ll often find this crazy Canadia laying on the horn.

Maybe they have a large deposit from their company that won’t fit in the little canister thing?
Or it is the same metality as when you are at the gym, there are 15 treadmills, all empty and a person has to get on the one beside you. Or you are on the beach, the rest of the beach is deserted and someone has to lay within 50 feet of you.

@jimah LOL! I live in Michigan and I know what you’re talking about. Some of our 2-lane highways can be very disstressing. I always chalk it up as, so the a-hole thinks he owns the road, well he can’t own it forever. So happy I’m a very patient person.

What about those Michigan lefts? I visited Detroit often during college to see my best friend, and those stupid lefts drove me nuts.

Most of the stupidity I see around here involves parents and their kids. There’s a lot of money in this town, and it’s amazing to me how some parents can not only give their kids anything they want, but bail them out of any trouble they get into. There’s even been a problem lately with parents letting their kids and their kids’ friends drink at home. Several weeks ago a kid who had just graduated high school died after a party. A few years ago, several high school athletes were caught using steroids. Not only were they not suspended from school, they were even allowed to continue playing sports. The parents put up a huge fight to keep the kids from having any negative consequences for their actions, and the school caved in under pressure from the parents and their lawyers. There was also an incident not long ago where several 8th grade boys assaulted a classmate at a party. They had all been drinking and the adults partying right upstairs had no idea what had happened until the girl finally told her parents a few days later. In the meantime, the boys had sent photos of the incident to everyone they knew via cell phone.

I know kids will screw up and do stupid things, but the level of stupidity from the parents who actually enable this behavior boggles my mind.

Most people here are highly-educated and pretty intelligent. The stupidity comes from things similar to what @MissAusten said. People driving drunk and things like that. It’s a rich town. That’s just what you get. I don’t know of any stories as bad as those, though. DUIs and vandalism are the worst I’ve seen here.

In my town, which is small, rural, in the mountains and woods, and 25 miles from any “city”....these people are effing insane. We got the redheaded girl with two (out out four) of her own brother’s kids. We got the guy who got mad last year and went to shoot his girlfriend but pulled over for sirens and shot at the cops. Dead. We got a dad who shot his wife and himself in front of the preteens. Both dead. We got no-driving old people who try to get on the bike path and rip up their undercarriages. We got drugs out the ass, dui laws that’ll keep ya home every night, and a town commissioner who is a wife beater and a sexual offender. We got 3 bars for every church, women who put rat poison on their husbands sandwiches you use it to kill a rat, she said, a collapsing school system, an apartment complex run by a dragon lady who seems to be heading for the ‘live forever’ status. Am I running out of room here yet? There’s so much more.

No; I live in a very educated suburb of a larger city.
