Is there a utility that will extract the audio from a MPG or FLV?

Asked by HungryGuy (16039points) August 15th, 2010

Is there a utility that will extract the audio from a MPG or FLV (such as something I Nabbed from YouTube) and save it as a MP3 or WAV? There’s a lot of music I discover that I like attached to bizarre You Tube videos that I would like to add to my MP3 collection. If the song title is given in the video, I try to buy the MP3 from Amazon for $0.99 if it’s there, but the song isn’t always named. I have no problems capturing the videos and saving them on my computer, so that’s not the issue. I just want to extract the audio from an existing MPG or FLV and save it as MP3…

Legally I wouldn’t think so – I’m just making an observation there.

Could you use sound recorder (PC) to record whatever audio is being output by your computer then play the video?

I suspect that would record in WAV format but you could then run it through a WAV to MP3 converter, which you’ll find for free online I’m sure.

Sure, it’s no problem.
It can be done with a lot of software. On the Mac I would simply use QuickTime, Save As… and select an audio format.
Not sure what programs is hot for Windows right now, but you might be able to do the same with QuickTime for Windows?

Yes, there is. I use AoA Audio Extractor Basic.

Occasionally, I use my webcam’s mic and then I’ll extract the audio from it with this tool.

Use super if you want a program. A bit confusing but a great program.
