Do I qualify for workers comp?

Asked by bassist_king1 (310points) March 24th, 2008 from iPhone

at work, I injured myself. I was throwing out a glass lid, and decided to smash it in the dumpster. When I did, I cut my ring finger on my left hand, and hit a tendant, and had to get 3 stitches. no one else saw it happen. Should I still get workers comp even though it was my fault? It was still an accident at work, regardless of how it happened. And it wasn’t like I was intending to hurt myself.
I went to the office today, and they said I might not get it, cause they think I was messing around, but I think they just don’t want their insurance to go up. The lady there was kinda bitchy, and was ridiculing me and saying rude things like “why would you do such a stupid thing, and what were you expecting to happen” and yea, I admit it was kinda dumb thing to do, but why do you have to be so rude about it?
My doctor says it doesn’t matter how it happened, and that it happened at work, and they don’t need a reason why.
What do you think?
Btw, I work at kfc, in Alberta, Canada

If you are found to be at fault, you won’t get it. Your doctor gave you incorrect information. You can apply for it and see if they will cover it, but if they find out your injury was due to your own negligence it is unlikely they will pay.

It should be filed under workmans comp – they may contest it, however.

Here is a link to the Workers Compensation Board in Alberta Canada. I don’t have any insights into Canada’s worker comp laws. You can also file a claim online.

Did you lose wages or days from work? If you have then maybe…like you saud Only you knew this happened…it’s your word against….All those darn insurance co’s….
If the finger has healed or will heal without any loss to your income let it go….
...Besides chicks dig scars….

@boffin His employers know what happened, therefore they will probably fight it. if he gets workman’s comp under false pretenses, he could be charged with fraud, and have to repay everything. They do investigate claims, so it’s best to be honest.
