What refreshing, cold drinks did you have as a kid that aren't made anymore?

Asked by Aster (19984points) August 19th, 2010

I loved Tru Ade; it was a non-carbonated orange drink in a glass bottle. How I’d love seeing that again. Next Triple X Rootbeer and chocolate Cokes.

they still make slushies at 7–11, but today the flavors are all so 21st century. back in the 70s it was just red, can i just have a red slushy? no mixes. so suicides. just one spigot that farts out that red slushy.

Squirt. And while it still exists, when I was a child, it was essentially carbonated grapefruit juice in a bottle, with some pulp settlement visible at the bottom. I’m also a fan of birch beer, a form of reddish colored root beer that I’ve only been able to find in Pennsylvania.

Red Rock Cola.

RC Cola! and, with a moon pie!

I don’t know if they are still made, but I haven’t seen them in a long time—Grapico.

Used to drink Squirt. Don’t know if they still make it or not. Haven’t seen any on the shelves. @perspicacious They still make Grapico. Saw it the other day on the shelf.

I used to love the chocolate drink “YooHoo”. Haven’t seen it in years.

Wonderful A&W Root Beer Floats at Carlson’s Drive-in, Fort Worth, TX. They don’t taste the same anymore.

Ditto Orange Julius.

@worriedguy, head south. I buy it at the quick mart when it get gas.
@BoBo1946, what about a coke with peanuts in it? The only place I’ve seen Moon Pies lately is Cracker Barrel.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@worriedguy BarnacleBill is correct about YooHoo. I just stopped in at the convenience store and asked. “Oh yeah Honey. It’s in the cooler on the bottom left-hand side. You can get it in a bottle or a can.” Welcome to The South.

Real Coca Cola.

ducky_dnl's avatar

@worriedguy We love yoohoo, that’s a southern kids drink right there. You have to come to the south and have one. Ahh Yoohoos! :D

I don’t see Fanta around much these days.

Frenchfry's avatar

It is here in the south . Fanta and Yoohoo.
I would love to see Rock Shop Pop.
It was super cheap and my mom bought it by the case.
All sort of flavors.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@BarnacleBill, @Pied_Pfeffer, @ducky_dnl, @Frenchfry You’ve given me a reason (besides fireworks) to head south.
Road trip!

Frenchfry's avatar

@ducky_dnl You can actually order it from Coke. Fanta . My husband is a distributor for the company.

Cruiser's avatar

@Jeruba My son recently made me aware that the local Mexican food store sells Real Coke made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup and sure enough it tastes like the stuff I remember blasting my teeth to as a kid.

Aster's avatar

@Austinlad I love Orange Julius and make it in the blender. They sell it at the Roswell , NM mall !! They actually have an OJulius “store” there as we speak and they’re as great as ever.

BoBo1946's avatar

@BarnacleBill did you hit a nerve….Coke with peanuts (but, the peanuts have to in the coke), that is what I’m talking about. They still have Moon Pie here in about any store. Love moon pies, but they are messy. Don’t ever try to drive and eat a moonpie…

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Pop Shoppe bottled sodas in a multitude of flavors. Other than that I miss sodas in real glass bottles, made with sugar instead of corn syrup.

Frenchfry's avatar

@Neizvestnaya I think maybe that’s the name of the soda that I had when I was little. They were in glass bottles . Hmm I live up north.

Aster's avatar

I want an A&W Rootbeer Now, please. Thanks. in a frosted mug.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@ducky_dnl Fanta is still arround. In the UK you can get it in a million * different flavours.

* numbers exagerated for comic effect

gypsywench's avatar

@Aster don’t they still make TaB? They make TaB Energy.

Aster's avatar

I’d like to try Tab Energy. I’ve not seen it !
