Famous people from your hometown?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) August 22nd, 2010

Not much to add, I guess. What celebrities have made it big from your hometown?

There are several athletes from this area, but most famous are Kelly Pavlik and Ray “boom boom” Mancini (we like boxing, apparently.) Ed O’Neill is another one. (from Married With Children.)

I come from a small village to the north of London. Absolutely nothing notable has happened there for the past 2000 years, except a rather grizzly murder which took place some time in the mid 19th Century.

The band The Fray and the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace are from my hometown.

Mark Wilkerson is from my hometown, he was the lead singer of Course of Nature. They had a hit song “Caught in the Sun” back in 2002 on the album Superkala. He is married to Melissa Joan Hart the “teenage witch” or whatever she is…

I forgot to do a little shameless name dropping and say that Pavlik and my husband were best friends in highschool, they even had their senior photos taken together.

Nobody. Okay, there’s a politician from my hometown, but she’s not particularly famous. Just one of our pride and joys, particularly because she graduated from my high school.

My mum and dad went to school with Alfred “Weird Al” Yankovic. He’s in their yearbooks. They both remember passing him in the halls and said he was a weird kid, but an extremely intelligent young man. I thought it was sweet that they purchased his music after he broke into the industry.

I don’t really know anyone famous people from here. People tend to make it big and then settle here.

Actress Kate Walsh.

I went to high school with Tristan Kingsley who is now a famous pornstar. She was two years ahead of me in school.

That douchebag Dustin Diamond. My mom is friends with his grandfather. He use to bring Dustin in to the restaurant she use to work at.

Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe.

And, although she’s not really super famous or anything, I went to school with and am good friends with Katee Shean from So You Think You Can Dance. She got 3rd place. WOO! :D

Not to mention, tons of famous baseball and football players as well as figure skaters and Olympic gold medalists.

We’ve also had quite a few people move to San Jose. I believe Holly Hunter moved there at one point and so did Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.

Absolutely nobody.

@Vunessuh I don’t watch SYTYCD, but a ton of people do. I was going to mention Omarosa, I think she became famous when she was on that show with Donald Trump. (See how much TV I watch?)

But I wasn’t sure if reality type shows would count for celebrity.

Let’s see, for Jackson, Mississippi…
Lance Bass from N’sync
the band 3 Doors Down
I don’t know who the other people are on this list, but some notable Mississippians include Peyton, Archie, and Eli Manning. Morgan Freeman. Jimmy Buffet. BB King. Elvis Presley. LeAnn Rimes. Walter Payton. Jerry Rice. Eudora Welty. Tennessee Williams. and Oprah!
I think a little higher of my state now…

@Vunessuh When Mark was cut from So You Think You Can Dance, I was pulling for Katee to win and voted like crazy for her :) She’s a brilliant dancer, but you certainly don’t need me to tell you that!

JilltheTooth's avatar

@muppetish —Yay Weird Al!—-

Vunessuh's avatar

@muppetish Yeah, she’s definitely an amazing dancer. Even though she didn’t win, she’s had so many doors open up for her, that I don’t think she minds. :)

I can’t think of anyone famous who started out in this area, but famous people sure do like to come here to visit/live. (I’m not far from Woodstock.)

I guess the most famous would be Oprah Winfrey. She wasn’t born in Milwaukee, but spent the vast majority of her childhood and adolescence there. I know where her old house is, and yes, it is in the GHET-TOE, straight up. Her family was poorer than mine – and we were pretty poor!

Eric Benet – R&B singer, ex-husband of Halle Berry

Gene Wilder – actor (he lived in the neighbourhood I grew up in 40 years before me.)

Kristen Johnston – actress (the tall redhead on 3rd Rock from the Sun – she graduated from my high school a few years ahead of me)

Speech from 90s rap band Arrested Development.

Al Jarreau – Jazz singer

Jane Kaczmarek – actress (“Lois” on Malcolm in the Middle)

Bob Uecker – basballer, sports commentator and sitcom actor (Mr Belvedere)

The Violent Femmes – I used to watch them rehearse if I walked past Brian Ritchie’s house after school when I was a kid, and one of my friends dated Gordon Gano.

Jerry Harrison – Talking Heads keyboardist

And of course, the infamous Jeffrey Dahmer.

Chris Farley is from Madison, ~70 miles east. I’d love to claim Orson Welles, but he’s from Kenosha, ~30 miles south.

A TV actress & a footballer. No one you’d have heard of. Well certainly not the yanks ;¬}

aprilsimnel's avatar

@ucme – So? We Yanks can look them up. Who are they, for the UK jellies who’d know?

ucme's avatar

@aprilsimnel Oooh, handbags at dawn, well if you insist!! Gina Mckee would be the actress & Brian Little the footballer. He used to play for Aston Villa, a very good player in his day. Went on to become a manager.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@ucme – Dude, I totally know who she is, though I realize a lot of people won’t. She was in The Forsyte Saga with that sexy ginger beast Damian Lewis! The footballer, though, yeah, I didn’t know who he was. :/

ucme's avatar

@aprilsimnel Yeah she was in Notting Hill too, apologies to the delightful Miss Mckee, your fame knows no bounds, apparently.

I’m not sure if there are any celebrities from my hometown. Alot of famous people have homes and properties here. Like, Ben Stiller, Pierce Brosnan, Bette Midler, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Natalie Merchant, Sylvester Stallone has a Polo Ranch and a house here. Oh and the guy that invented the rubik’s cube. They also film alot of movies here. I met Geoffrey Rush a month ago and had a nice conversation with him over a cigarette.
