What's the global dynamic of Fluther?

Asked by truecomedian (3937points) August 22nd, 2010

What’s the percentage of users of the site, according to demographic populace? Like, where are most of it’s users? Where are the least of it’s users located?

Well I am in the US if that helps.

@johnpowell created this map. It doesn’t include every user of Fluther, but hopefully this will give you some idea of what you are looking for. Contact powell if you want to be added.

Is this what you’re looking for? Quantcast

I know of two Israelis, and one who visits sometimes… where is OMGTali?

We do have a user that has Fluthered from Antarctica.

I just think that is totally awesome.

(can’t believe I used my valley girl voice just now)

zen_'s avatar

@jonsblond Like, totally.

We literally have members from all over the world (one of the many things I love about this place), but the vast majority are in the US.

@zen_ Tali has been traveling all over the place, and that reminds me of an interesting point. We even have mods and staff members in other countries. I think that’s totally awesome, dude. :)

Yeah.. I know of a lot of people (and locations) that would give the map some Internationale flavor. But the map is opt in and I don’t want to add anyone without their consent. Europe is way underrepresented as it stands.

But I think the map is probably the best way to get an idea that is from real user submitted data. And all the data passed my “smell test.” I’m sure it is pretty damn accurate.

We should have a “where are you right now” thingee – maybe Ryan could make it. Then if a jelly sees that someone is travelling to, or gonna be in their area, and if so inclined, could let them know. I don’t think a Q with a thread would be effective; it’d have to be a one-pager – maybe a map or something. I dunno. Smarties? Help?

jrpowell's avatar

@zen_ :: The odds of that happening are null.

I started working on a project that might allow me to buy beer that isn’t PBR. All projects are on hold.

@johnpowell Are you graduating to Natty Lights – the poor college student bro drink of choice?

HTML5 location awareness could make this a possibility. The user can choose not to have their location revealed.

@BarnacleBill That is so neat. Makes you wonder why do we need any Q&A site. All the answers are somewhere on the web, you just have to know where to look.

jrpowell's avatar

@brotherhume :: Yeah.. I already did to help people to find their lat and long.

http://stfudamnit.com/ryan/fluther/maps/locate.html <—Needs Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Chrome. IE is not allowed.

I just don’t see the point in tracking people or why anyone would want to share that info.

So do you guys actually want to be added to the map? A “add me to the map” would be nice.

I’m in Hawaii, it’s like a one night stand that lasts a week. It’s nice to visit, magical, but it’s tough to live here. I go stir crazy, ever gone nuts before, can’t sit still, can’t do anything long enough to pass any time. Can’t even score any fun meds from my doctor, oh wait, I’ve been up all night, hmmm.

Adagio's avatar

@johnpowell Sure, add me to your map :)

I asked this because there seems to be the same people on here every time, and I was under the impression that I was asking the world, not just the same old folks in the US. Hmmm, maybe one day it will be like that.
