What do your shoes say about you?

Asked by Deja_vu (4157points) August 25th, 2010

You can tell alot about somebody by what kind of shoes they wear. Are you active, on the go? Do you like to be dressy? Is comfort a factor? Do you suffer pain for vanity? Do you have a favorite pair of boots that are all fallen apart and you still throw them on every once in awhile?

Chucks, dressy sandals, boots, boots, magical boots, and slingbacks.

I’m all over the place.

A lot. Enjoy.

And don’t ever get between a fat man and his flip flops.

I have shoes for just about every possible occasion. I have 2 pairs of sneakers, about 10 pairs of dress shoes (several different colors), boots for in the snow, boots for hiking, 3 pairs of casual shoes (not quite dress shoes), 4 pairs of black boots, two pair of converse, a pair of sandals, a pair of flip flops, and one pair of DCs. All of my shoes are comfortable. I don’t like wearing uncomfortable shoes.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

Biker boots, running shoes, sandals. No consistency.

I’ve been wearing flip-flops or sandals every day for the past couple months (with a few exceptions). I think that shows that I’m laid-back, Californian, and love the sun and warm weather.

Additionally, I wear a lot of Vans. Not sure what that says about me. My shoes reveal that I do care about how they look and that I like bright colors. Also that I don’t mind spending a pretty penny on certain pairs…Lacoste shoes ftw.

@jjmah “magical boots” I want pictures :D

As for me dressy shoes for going out, running shoes, and boots.

What it means, I wear what I feel is needed for that moment.
Also that since I have not bought a pair of shoes in sometime that I’m broke.

1) I care for comfort
2) I couldn’t care less about looking good
3) I try to get as much use out of something as I possibly can, before moving on to its successor.
4) Well. We know what they say about big feet.

I have a small selection of shoes, but in my day-to-day life I only wear one pair, a pair of Vans I’ve had since at least ‘05 (Probably sooner).

My go-to shoes are a pair of purple low-tops. They reveal I own Sharpies (or fine-point markers of some kind) in black, lavender, and sky blue. I have “Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, California” written on the heel of my left shoe. The canvas material on top of the right shoe quotes, “I pray thee speak me sooth What is thy name?’ He said, ‘My name is Love.’” The laces are always tied because I slip the shoes off when I get home. They are fairly dirty because I wear them everywhere. My feet are small.

I also have plain, black Reefs. Usually wear those if I need to go out somewhere quick. Can’t be bothered to put on socks. I have a pair of running shoes that rarely see use.

My dress shoes are an extremely, worn-out pair of black oxfords that need replacing.

EDIT: I should note that I simply haven’t had a chance to uncross California. That looks weird without an explanation.

Bohemian classy here.

Sandles are my shoe of choice.
Sexy, strappy and river sandles, rugged, earthy and out of the closet all summer as I live near miles of river and trails.

Winter, boots, boots, boots!

Sexy, Uggs, cowboy, hgh heeled. I love boots!

tinyfaery's avatar

Flip flops and Converse—comfort, casual
Boots—I have a rebellious streak, somewhat fashionable
Heels—I like to get dressed-up on occasion.

Deja_vu's avatar

I love boots too! I haven’t been wearing them this summer. I also still have my 20 eyelet Dr. Martens from the 90’s. I own quite a bit of heels, yet I tend to also wear flats, sandles, flip-flops and Converse. These are my favorite pair at the moment. As for what they say about me? I guess I rather be comfortable.

Deja_vu's avatar

@jjmah Magical boots? I have to see that.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

These probably say more about who I am than any other footwear. I’ve had one pair for 32 years, resoled three times.

Currently flip-flops are all I wear. Even in the winter. They say “This is what I can get onto my feet without hurting myself. If you think my agoraphobic ass is going any further than is absolutely necessary, you can kiss my grits.”

But one day I will have my anxiety under control, and I will wear shoes like these, these and these. Those all say “I am badass and/or weird.”

It seems I have worn nothing but these since Christmas. 13 US, 46 EU

Shoes? Who wears shoes? Gotta hang loose with flip flops, man.

Blackberry's avatar

Flip flops and dress shoes pretty much lol. I’m laid back during the day and ‘so fresh and so clean’ during the night.

kenmc's avatar

My shoes are 116$ running shoes. I’m overweight and sometimes smoke.

They say that I want to get in shape, but don’t have the will power.

Frenchfry's avatar

Laid back , comfortable, and cheap. I wear flip flops mostly. They don’t cost a whole lot. I live in a warm climate though.

FutureMemory's avatar

When they put me in the grave I’ll be wearing a pair of low top Vans. I grew up in SoCal in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and I was into BMX – Vans are just what we wore, period. I would go so far as to consider them a part of my identity; if I wear any other style of shoe it feels extremely unnatural and foreign.

That i’m a sole man, de de de duh de de de!! Oh & I can speak in tongues, especially to the wife. Wow that last remark was laced with mischief ;¬} Whaddya mean i’m a heel? How very dare you? Why that was a polished attempt at humour, okay not funny but polished nontheless!!

cookieman's avatar

Mostly Converse Chucks (or chuck-like knock offs). Pretty beat. Size 13.

I enjoy casual comfort but need to replace them more often – and have big feet.

serafina's avatar

That i have more money than sense! I have too many pairs for sure :D

Haaha..YOU are awesome. ^^

Totally depends where I’m going and what I’m doing. I wear smart shoes for work, chucks or sneakers out of work, and Doc Marten boots when I’m walking my dog or going anywhere that’s likely to be muddy.

zen_'s avatar

They tend to talk behind my back a lot with the other shoes, especially with my daughters more gossipy Jimmy’s.

But if they could say one thing about me, they’d say I was sensible, yet fashionable, practicle and strong – yet smart and sophisticated. Okay two things.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@ChazMaz Gregorian? What’s that my friend?

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

My avatar name basically says it all——I like to wear traditional black men’s leather dress shoes, always polished, and with leather soles, preferably. And the shoes can’t be “clunky-looking” and “chunky” like a lot of men’s dress shoes you see in shoe stores today. In other words, slobbish-looking dull loafers with no style. Yeech. I prefer slick fine quality dress shoes, either tie-ons or slip-ons. Black is always in style, but dark brown (not light) is nice too.

@MRSHINYSHOES I read your answer as if I could hear you out loud. I have to say i’m getting George Takei coming through loud & clear, in his most camp voice that is ;¬} No offence guy, just a little fun!

cookieman's avatar

@MRSHINYSHOES: I too love nice black dress shoes. Sadly my job at the farm precludes my ability to wear them (I would destroy them there) – so I stick with my comfy (and disposable) Chucks. But I do keep one pair of dress black handy for occasions. I’m a big fan of Johnston and Murphy.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@ucme It’s really unfortunate (and sad) when some people have to make a comment about sexual orientation when a man just wants to look good and separate himself from all the beer-belly, unshaven, smelly slobs out there. I suppose your idea of a well-dressed heterosexual male is a guy who dons a tattered baseball cap, old sweats, dirty jeans, and smelly sneakers. Well, I need to enlighten you that there “are” guys out there who pride themselves in the way they look, and who are not afraid to dress well, not only for the women in their lives but for themselves. It’s silly, immature remarks like yours that make a lot of men shy away from looking their best. You may be joking, but an adolescent cannot make a more silly and offensive comment like yours. Don’t be homophobic. By the way, for your information, I’m as straight an arrow can be my friend.

ucme's avatar

@MRSHINYSHOES Whoah whoah, slow down dude. Look I tell you what, it’s best I discuss this with you through PM’s. Where I hope to resolve this unfortunate situation, with your help of course. See you there.

CMaz's avatar

I like wearing work boot with shorts.

MacBean's avatar

@ChazMaz Just one boot?

CMaz's avatar

Yea. What’s wrong with that? LOL
