What animal is making this frigging noise?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) August 27th, 2010

It sounds like a pigeon coo, but warbled. Imagine that “doodly doo” noise they make in Wayne’s World when they’re doing a flashback. I hope you know what I mean.
I think it’s a bird, but I’m not sure. It’s 2 am and I can hear it pretty loud. It’s annoying, please help me find out what it is. For those who don’t know, I live in mountain-y Southwest Washington.

Is this the sound?
Western screech owl

Oh my god, that’s totally it. That was freaky. I wasn’t sure anyone could understand my weird description. Thank you! We actually have owls up here and I completely forgot about them. You rule!

Your description was perfect. The Wayne’s World reference nailed it for me.

“Doodly doo” I thought Ned Flanders was in your tree XD

They’re usually much closer than they sound and are fairly skittish. Just walk outside with a flashlight and jump around or shake some branches if it is bothering you.

Or respond. I usually imitate their calls back to them. It’s really cute how worked-up they get.
