What locations are considered the most inexpensive to live in the U.S.?

I am considering relocating. I currently live in southern California. I like green, open areas with enough to do to keep me entertained. (I don’t want to live in the middle of “Lala Land” where no one can hear me scream but I don’t want to live in the city where skyscrapers block the sun and all that you’ll see on the ground in concrete)
