55–300 zoom. You won’t have to keep changing lenses.
Maybe a 50 with f1.4 for closer shots. You could always use the 18–135 the camera came with.

I like the 18–200. I don’t think you’ll need anything with a longer focal length than that, but having something as wide as 18 will give you the opportunity for beautiful shots without having to back up.

If you want to take any kind of night shots, you’ll definitely have to have a bigger flash than the one that’s built in. the 18–200 only has a f/stop of 3.5 (when the lens is at 18mm.. 5.6 when it’s all the way zoomed out)

put a nice polarizing lens filter on it too. You’ll get some great color in those photos!

Get a used Tamron 28–75mm f/2.8 zoom. They can be had for $200—$300. It acts as a 42–110mm on an APS camera like the D80. It focuses in the same direction as Nikon and has extremely close focusing.

It’s wide enough for group shots and wonderful at the telephoto end for portraits.

Go here and click on the Weddings and the Kids to see samples of how versatile this lens is on an APS chip.

The lens is sharp at f/2.8 and 99% of this work was all shot natural light at 400 or 800 iso. The large f-stop isolates the subject and throws the background out of focus with great bokeh. 67mm filter is cheaper and works with most modern ring lights too.

You may also want to invest in an ultra wide angle for church interiors or tight spaces. One of the 10–20mm or 12–24mm zooms should do well for these shots. Stick with the same lens brand and your color will be consistent between lens changes.
