Could comments moderated as spam be completely removed and they don't count for the total of answers?

It seems silly to leave any visible trace of them.

Make the new guy code it after he finishes waxing everyone’s legs.

Well, I think it is useful to have a reminder that there was an answer that was moderated. Just because some people see it before it gets modded.

I’m gonna go with the OP. I hear ya, but I don’t see a reason for it to say spam, personal attack, etc. It could be a nice, clean thread…

I like the reminder, it makes sense out of some of the following comments, that would otherwise seem disjointed.

I would love to see them totally removed especially if the answer is the first quip which takes the question out of “orphan” status.

Lately we have seen an increase in spam.

@JilltheTooth What sense does a little Spam, Off-Topic or Unhelpful thingee does it make for you? just curious.

@zen_ : I tend to read all the postings on a thread and some posts that are a reaction to the modded ones would confuse me with no context. A personal thing, I try to read carefully and badly typeset passages in books can hang me up for awhile. Just one of my charming persnikety little quirks, I guess! ;-)

SPAM – yes. The OP talks of SPAM. Remove all traces – assuming you’re talking about true SPAM (“Click here to purchase a free set of steak knives”)

Now if you’re talking about moderated responses of members that didn’t get it right, I think leaving them is the best possible reminder that you need to keep your act together, and why. Especially in General.

It’s like seeing someone being pulled over on the freeway getting a ticket. It slows you down a bit, as you meekly peek into your rearview mirror.

I also see it as a huge site differentiator. It’s like evidence of a strong sheriff in a Wild West town. Other towns are completely lawless. This one, we have the noble all-powerful sheriff watching over things, keeping people from shooting up the place after they’ve been drinkin’.

I would like it removed because the numerous spam listings show up on my ‘activity for you’ list. I hate clicking on question after question just to see the spam removed notice.

I wouldn’t mind if the spam answers disappeared entirely, especially if, as @Dog says, it takes a question out of ‘orphan’ status. I would never want the other ‘response moderated’ notices to disappear, though. I like @ipso idea that it reminds you there’s a sheriff in town. <polishes badge and saunters away> :p
