Any New Zealanders in the Fluther affected by today's quake?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) September 3rd, 2010

Don’t know if there are any New Zealanders on the Fluther…just heard there was a large quake off the coast of Christchurch. Hope all of you are okay. (7.0–7.4 approximate)

Thanks….everyone…..still hope everyone is okay. Apparently there have been no deaths…but a lot of damage. And it’s still shaking over there.

I live in central chch, remarkably little damage to my home, pretty scary when it was happening, though.

SOOOOOO Glad to hear from our Lovelys in NZ!!

I was also relieved when I heard there was no loss of life (at latest report)....and only two injuries…that is just miraculous…makes me want to cry, really. I just love the people of NZ…wonderful, warm and loving…!

Christchurch city has sustained substantial structural and infrastructural damage with ongoing aftershocks not helping (150 since Saturday including a very large one this morning).

The city has curfews and many businesses are closed. Currently the city is still deemed in emergency.

Luckily and miraculously, there has been no deaths. If the time of day when it occured hadn’t been 4:30am, chances are that this would not be the case.

I am due to fly down there in two weeks from Wellington and am considering not going as the aftershocks are still continuing. They are predicting another large one.

The rest of NZ has not been affected. Our government is shelling out truckloads of cash to assist rebuilding Christchurch though.

My parents and family are ok so that is a relief.

Curious, how much cover is this event receiving overseas??
