Can dogs sense that I'm pregnant?

Asked by Mom2BDec2010 (2669points) September 4th, 2010

Everytime I’m at my friends house his dog lays beside me and lays his head on my stomach. Does he (the dog) know I’m pregnant? Can animals sense it?

They can smell it. You’re spewing out all sorts of pheromones, now, and not just dogs can smell it. Humans can pick it up on a subtle olfactory level as well although we’re not conciously aware of it. It’s a mechanism to alert “protectors” that women are in a more vulnerable state.

Dogs know everything. babies, oldness, death…..pregnancy.

Either that, or they just think you’re awfully comfy.

They can smell it, hear it, and even see it. They aren’t stupid. Really. If you saw that a girlfriend of yours just gained 10 pounds and a pot belly, what would YOU think.

I like to think so. When my sister first found out she was pregnant, she was super worried and really down in the dumps. It seems like my dog knew because he really never left her side and he seemed to be way more calm around her than anyone else in the family.
I love dogs, especially mine. He’s the most comforting thing to hug. :D
