What do I do to fix my iPod if i dropped it in paint?

Asked by amandaafoote (865points) March 26th, 2008

I was painting, felt a tug at my ear, and I look down to see my iPod in the paint can. I cleaned it off but there was some in the USB port. I dried it off and it played, but wouldn’t turn off, the battery died and now it faintly shows the apple, and then the screen freaks out. Is it fixable? If so, any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your iPod , but don’t get all “Emotional” about it. (Get it Emotional)

Sounds like you’ve got a rotten Apple?

Do you still have your warranty ? If so, figure out a way to clean the paint marks and bring it to a genius bar. When asked what happened, just say it started acting like this a while ago and say that it would turn off automatically in the past. Also if you have an older video ipod, you can say that this started happening after you upgraded the firmware. And they’ll replace your iPod for free (though you will lose the music in it).

How do I know this ? I work as a genius

Get in touch with apple and see if they can do anything for you. I’m almost positive that they can fix it although I’m not sure if you’ll have to pay any kind of fee. Bad luck is a bummer. You have my sympathy. I’m dependent on mine as well.

@ mirza, I don’t think my warranty will still work? I’ve had the iPod for over 2 years now, and it is a video iPod. The problem with that is, I can’t get all of the paint out of the USB port, haha.

UPDATE: I plugged my iPod into my computer after leaving it alone for the night, and it just worked again? haha, luck! (o: thank you to those who replied to help
