Why won't my iPod sync?

Asked by ChocolateReigns (5624points) September 7th, 2010

I have the latest edition of iTunes. I have a 2nd gen iPod nano. I have Windows XP. I just bought an album on iTunes last night, and I want to put it on the iPod now, but it’s not working. I’ve tried 3 times. I’m listening to the music on the comp right now, so I know it downloaded fine. Any help?

Oh by the way, it says it’s syncing fine, but then when I disconnect (I hit the eject button and do it just like they say to), the music isn’t on the iPod.

A 2nd-gen Nano has a limited amount of storage. Perhaps you’re only sync’ing selected Playlists?

With your iPod connected, click on your iPod’s node in the Devices list from the left sidebar. Then click the Music tab near the top.

Note the Sync Music options provided. Do you have the box checked so that only “selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres” are sync’d when you connect?

Try using “Restore” on the iPod (it should be on the front page of iTunes). That might work.

@robmandu I know I have plenty of space left on the iPod. And I don’t know if I had that box checked, but I know it was selected, even if it was.
@weeveeship Won’t that take all my music off the iPod?

The other place to look at is on your iPod’s Summary tab in iTunes. Do you have the box checked to “Manually manage music”?
