Anyone remember the original Highway Patrol tv shows?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) September 7th, 2010

How far has law enforcement come, since the tv show Highway Patrol? I remember seeing the big black and white state trooper cars and that big whip antenna on the back of Borderick Crawfords cruiser. To my knowledge, Broderick Crawford never wore a trooper uniform, only a suit and tie, while driving his police vehicle. Law enforcement was crude back in those days. And, wearing seat belts was unheard of. I am looking forward to reruns on cable, one day. Question: Anyone remember the make and model of the trooper cars used in the tv series Highway Patrol?

I remember the show but could not remember the car make, which apparently was four different makes (Buick, Olds, Dodge, Mercury) according to this(TV_series)

I totally miss Highway Patrol. I also miss Rescue 911 and Unsolved Mysteries. They just don’t really make good cop shows like they used to.

I remember it from when I was pretty young. Have things changed? Yes, I think so! And
here’s something else about the car.

Edit: I just checked the Wikipedia link and I remember it from reruns because even though I am almost as old as dirt, it premiered before I was born and was off the air by the time I was 2.

Sure, but I haven’t thought of it, nor Broderick Crawford in 35 years. HIghway Patrol episodes.

@Deja_vu No, not CHIPS. That came out in the 70’s.

The original Highway Patrol starred Broderick Crawford and first aired in the late 40’s or 50’s.

Doctor Who drove one! An interesting yet little known “fact” :¬)

And speaking of Broderick Crawford… remember him in “All the King’s Men,” about the rise and fall of a corrupt, megalomaniacal politician named Willie Stark (based on Gov. Huey Long of Louisiana)? The film is 60 years old, but Stark and his cronies are out collecting votes right this minute.
