Old as in: analog (Channel 2–13), or just a few years old (capable of digital TV)?

@martijn86 You will need a “Digital Converter”, if you live in the USA, to convert all the current “over the air” digital TV stations.

No we live in Holland (EU) and we should recieve analog cable tv.

Cable box should have a channel output number, match the channel on your TV to that.

We use no cable box. We just need to scan the analog cable signal. Question is how…

Sounds like you are trying to “Direct connect” to cable feed.
Without a box, older TV’s were not set-up ( in the USA anyway ) to work that way.
The newer TV’s have a cable card built-in. That card acts like the box but in the TV.

No that’s deffinately the way tv’s were connected in the netherlands before digital tv. Connecting the TV is nog the problem, we are looking for the function that scans the whole bandwith.

That’s the function in the card or box in the USA. It scans the cable bandwidth and selects the channel from the cable.

I’ve been noodling around in “ether waves” www.upc.nl
Is that the cable company you have?

Maybe you want to find the search function for your TV:
