Who thinks this is totally ridiculous?

Asked by Mom2BDec2010 (2669points) September 9th, 2010

I was just reading an article about “Birth Rape.” Apparently some women are upset that doctors stick their “Fingers, hands, suction cups, forceps, needles and scissors” in a woman’s vagina while she is giving birth.

Who thinks women claiming the doctors are “raping” them are being ridiculous?

Well, technically speaking, it is possible for doctors to do these things against a woman’s wish because they so often disregard that a woman wants a childbirth that’s more natural but I wouldn’t call it rape – it’s just an extrapolation of the word but if some are traumatized by their experiences, I won’t judge them.

I guess it kinda depends on if it’s necessary for the birth of the child. I mean, if the baby’s out, and then he’s cramming his fingers in there, then probably, yeah, it’s rape. But how you would determine if it was necessary, I don’t know, and they’d almost definitely say it was.

Dumb! Do they miss the fact that the doctor is trying to insure a healthy baby? But, scissores! Is this just a one time thing?

I seriously doubt the doctor is sexually arroused here.
I don’t feel like I’m being raped when my doctor checks my prostate.

Do you have some sort of link you can post?

@tinyfaery to my last prostate exam?

Uh…no. Something about “birth rape”.

@filmfann She said “post” not “probe”.

Well, in order to prevent this situation in the future, let those complaining pregnant mothers to be go give birth underneath the apple tree. this is a very common practice in some foreign countries, if they have apple trees.

@tinyfaery Here’s a story I found about it. I wanted to read more about it before I answered.

I definitely think that a woman can be violated while giving birth if she has a doctor that does not communicate well with her. I do not think it should be called birth rape though. From what I read in the article, it’s about being mistreated while giving birth. When I had my son, my doctor told me everything and asked permission before using a vacuum to get him out. While I’m glad she asked, she could have just said what she was doing and did it. I really wouldn’t have told her no at that point when it came to something that was going to help me with my labor.

What NEXT?? That is totally ridiculous.

@Seaofclouds You make a very good point. Calling it rape is a bit much, but I can see how a woman might feel violated by doctors touching and probing her without asking or even informing her before hand.
