How often do you wonder and what do you wonder about?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) September 10th, 2010

How often do you wonder? Some of my friends think I am barmy because of some of the things that pop into my head. I wonder who figured out rice could be eaten, and which part of rice was the part to eat? How or who figured out how to grow rice, or that steaming it was better than baking, broiling or frying it? Why or what makes collard green eatable and not a rose bush or Spider plant? Who discovered how to tan hide and did it come about by accident, trial and error or some brilliant mind? Who figured out you could surf? What was the 1st ancient surf boards like? Was surfing used as an innovative way for island people to fish or what it always for fun? How did they clean those expensive clothes back before they had bleach, dry cleaning, and washing machines? Did wealthy people and royals have their clothes washed down by the river beat on a stone like the peasants? Just some of the things my mind wonders about that other people figure as my having some marbles misplaced. What is it you wonder about? What makes you go “ummmmmm………?”

Ummmmmm, i wonder about all your questions! :)

I have times when similar things go through my mind, when i’ve seen something on TV or read something in a book/magazine and then the wheels of wonder start churning….i think it’s natural curiosity to know how things work or are.

Hmm, let me see. Oh yeah, I wonder what Burt Reynolds has been up to!! A bit of a rogue that one & no mistake :¬)

Mine is about words! Why does a funny word like obey have to have such serious undertones? Why does it mean what it means? No marbles misplaced, you just have an active thought process! sounded good, right?!

Do you know how they tan hides? I believe urine is or once was involved! It seems that the Polynesians in Hawaii figured out about surfing, and Duke Kahanamoku brought surfing to the rest of the world. Those expensive clothes were cleaned on rocks.
Wondering is wonderful and you should continue to do so regardless of how barmy some of your friends think you are.

Artichokes. How the hell did someone decide to breach those defenses in search of something edible?

I usually wonder about several things happen in my day to day life, but my quest for finding answers let me to become a fact-finder and now, seriously I am spending 2 to 3 hours daily for net surfing about different things striking my mind.

I don’t know how many answers I would get; still I am happy that my IQ is improving and I am getting public appreciations :)

@JilltheTooth I love artichokes. I am the same way. I like to watch the history channel and science channel and stuff like that to find out sometimes. You have a very curious mind .Barmy doesn’t sound right, or I just don’t like the word for some reason.

Who invented fruit cake and what were they thinking?

I wonder about all kinds of stuff all the time. I am about homebound and most of my day is spent googling stuff. My latest muse comes from seeing a neighbor kid playing with a cowboy gun,but aiming it cocked 90 degrees. Which got me thinking about what a gangsta cowboy would look like.

I often wonder about the universe, does it end? If so, what’s there? What else is out there? Are there other universes?

I constantly wonder why/how we allow so many wrong-headed or incompetent people in politics, business, show business and other areas become so famous (or infamous).

I am doing it right now.

It is always the same… WHEN WILL IT ALL FRIGGIN END!

Feel so much better now. It’s an ugly cycle.

I think I wonder about multiple things every moment I’m awake – I really do think my brain is on some kind of overactive mode. A lot of the time, as I’m wondering, I’m reflecting on various patterns I see in society and how people interact with one another. I am most interested in people, as a budding sociologist, but am also strangely removed from them sometimes – as if I’m on the outside of all humanity but also a part of it. I recognize my own conditioning, the conditioning of others, the effect of race, culture, gender on people’s views and beliefs. I wonder about people’s urges and desires and wants. I can come up with a possible explanation for any behavior and I like to learn new things about societies all the time. There is nothing I take as inherent to people and I like, in my wonderings, to combine both scientific and sociological knowledge at my disposal – I consider certain behaviors through an evolutionary lens and then through a sociological/anthropological lens.

I’m a wandering wonderer. I wonder about all sorts of things, from the ridiculous to the sublime.
I also wonder about serious things such as those @Austinlad mentioned.
I wonder why people/animals/flowers/plants behave the way they do. I love learning about new cultures.
I love having chats about creativity, life, love, sorrow.
Isn’t life wonderful!

Wow I wonder on all of your questions. But I can’t make an answer since it would just be a guess. But uh I do wonder. I wonder what it would be like to feel myself out side of my body, or when super powers will be devolved or maybe if I ever cross Amber’s mind or maybe even some other people’s it’s all just me wondering what life might have in store for me.

@Austinlad I constantly wonder why/how we allow so many wrong-headed or incompetent people in politics, business, show business and other areas become so famous (or infamous). There is no wonder about that. Those who get into politics get there because most people don’t see the money potential in it. You get to write up and approve your own raises, many times even if you serve only one term you are on track for a juicy pension, not to mention the expense accounts. If you get elected and manage not to totally screw up you can stay in office 25, 30 years or more providing there is no term limits, some congressmen have served longer than Bush II and Obama put together, and you often don’t need a college degree to get elected.

Celebrities is just sad, having people with so bland lives that they have to glom over the life of someone else, do that thousands of times over and you have made a celebrity. To place so much interest in them and what they are doing is what done that as big of a waste as it is.

@Cruiser Who invented fruit cake and what were they thinking? Crikey! I have wonder about that one myself.
