Can I mail a flat-rate USPS box at the cheaper non-flat-rate Priority Mail rate?

Asked by lilikoi (10105points) September 10th, 2010

Will the USPS give me the better of the two rates since either way it is going Priority Mail, or insist that the flat rate box goes at the predetermined flat rate?

They will charge you the flat-rate.

Don’t get tricky and turn the box inside out. They frown on such shenanigans.

You can order all different sizes of free boxes, flat-rate and non flat-rate, at USPS.com and they deliver for free. Delivery takes a week or two.

Thank you! I was able to get it into a non-flat-rate box. I had a look at the website, and they have a lot more packaging types than I knew about! I had no idea there was a shoe box!
