What is your favourite Mel Brooks movie & your favourite scene from within?

Asked by ucme (50047points) September 12th, 2010

Yeah, hard to choose I know, for me at least. “Frankenstein” or “Saddles?” The monster or the cowboys? Then there’s High Anxiety, not a patch on those classics but still a damn fine movie. In the end i’m going to go with Blazing Saddles in a photo finish just edging out Young Frankenstein. My favourite scene, farting cowboys-candygram for Mongo…....close but this takes the prize. Now, how about you?

It’s so difficult to choose… so I’m not going to give you one, I’ll give you three scenes (neener, neener, I’m a cheater) but Young Frankenstein is unequivocally my favourite Mel Brooks film.

1. Sedagive?!
2. Puttin’ on the Ritz
3. I’m hysterical!

My favorite is the original The Producers. My favorite scene is the blind greed of Zero Mostel’s character screaming “I want that money!”

Blazing Saddles, FTW! It’s all about the singin’ for me.

Bart sings!

Lily sings!

“What’s your name, cowboy?”
“Tex, ma’am!”
“Well, ‘Tex Ma’am’, are you in show business?”
“Nope!”
“Then why don’t you get YOUR FRIGGIN’ FEET OFF THE STAGE!!??

The part in high anxiety when he confronts his fear
“It’s not heights I’m afraid of. It’s parents!”

Far and away, my fave is YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, and of the many scenes I love, two stand out:

1) When the monster (Peter Boyle) visits the old woodsman in his hut (Gene Hackman)
2) When Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) visits the monster in his cell and tells him he’s a handsome boy.

@lucillelucillelucille Madeline Kahn is one of the funniest performers to ever grace the screen. She’s such a scene-stealer.

I’ve always loved the bit from To Be, Or Not to Be where Mel does Hitler singing “All I want is peace!”
