How to get rid of stretch marks?

Asked by jenandcolin (2301points) September 21st, 2010

Is there any way that actually works to either rid oneself of stretch marks or minimize the appearance? Thanks!

Find the fountain of youth?

I think you’re asking for too much.

Yeah- I figured as much.
I have very little faith in the products available. I’m not really looking to lose them altogether…but lightening them would be nice. I just had my first child (and he was 10 lbs!)- my skin stretched quite bit. Oh well, I guess I will just need to abandon that swimsuit model plan of mine… (that was sarcasm…)

Have you tried ironing? My clothes have wrinkles and stretch marks, but they don’t bother me.

Apply cocoa butter! It lightens them.

I heard bio-oil was good for ‘em.

Try Therapy massage bar by Lush. It’s 100% organic and full of healing essential oils like neroli. It’s great for any kind of scarring on the body. You melt it between your palms and apply the oils or take the bar and rub it straight on to the area. It’s really moisturising, and the oils don’t absorb too quickly so you do have time to massage the area to bring blood and within that oxygen and nutrients to the area to help the skin heal.

My boss used it everyday on her stomach when she was pregnant and has no stretch marks!

The actual cause of stretch marks is overstretching of the dermis layer of the skin. Loss of flexiblility of the dermis can be due to poor elimination, too many toxins in the body, dehydration, poor liver detoxification, stress, and very importantly, nutrient deficiencies.

Drinking a litre – 1 litre ½ of water a day will help too. If you don’t have enough protein in your diet, you can’t make collagen and elastin which make up the dermis. (There should be some protein with every meal). Zinc is very important too, as are essential fats, which you should supplement under the supervision of the docotor/dietician/nutritionist if you are unable to get enough into your diet.
