Why am I having weird pain and sensations in legs?

Asked by uno123 (10points) September 25th, 2010

Hi, I’m a 20 year old female, I’m not overweight, but petite. Let me just get this out of the way first: I’m very health conscious and have been most of my life, and have always been very physically active. I was diagnosed with RSD at age 11, cured by oxygen therapy and rarely relapse. I was also born 3 months premature. I have kissing knees (what is the correct name for this?i don’t know). I get injured easily (tear muscles, strain muscles) and I had to quit dancing because of this. Few months ago I saw a physical therapist for shin splints (turned out they had healed and I was feeling the chronic pain of RSD).

Ok, are you still with me? Let me get to the leg pain. I’m just curious what this is. Sometimes at night when lying on my side I feel prickly, hot, burning sensations in my thigh (the thigh that I’m lying on) and my thigh will go numb. My circulation gets cut off also if I sit on the floor with both legs straight out in front of me. I can also get feelings of heat on legs, and feet at anytime. And today I suddenly came down with sharp pain in one leg when I take a step. The pain is throughout the whole leg. Didn’t do anything to the leg to injure it, I have had this before and it will be gone by tomorrow. I could go on and on here about weird sensations.

I have had weird unexplainable symptoms my whole life, like if lay on the floor stomach side down for a couple of seconds and when I get up there is pain in my chest for a couple minutes, what the heck is that? I’ve had that since I was 4.

Thanks for your time, this is so long that I don’t really expect any response. I’m just interested in other peoples experiences, knowledge etc.

Hi there. I was recently diagnosed with RSD as well. I’m glad to hear that you’ve gone into remission. As for you leg, keep in mind that I’m no doctor, but it sounds like a pinched nerve of some kind. My brother had similar pains at one point and they told him that it was a pinched nerve.

It sounds like it could be Sciatica.

“Sciatica pain can vary widely. It may feel like a mild tingling, dull ache, or a burning sensation. In some cases, the pain is severe enough to make a person unable to move.”

So, it’s been a month, did you see your doctor and what did he/she say about this pain?

No I can’t afford to see my doctor after my recent sessions with the PT. He thinks though that it is my RSD. Recently I was experiencing a pounding heart and hearing it in my ear when relaxing, I thought it was high blood pressure, but my mom said “no,no,no” so I told it to stop (seriously, that is what works for the aches and pains that aren’t real) and it went away immediately. I’m also experiencing pain that looks a lot like tendinitis, it could be tendinitis or the power of my mind.
