What are the demographics of the Fluther family?

Asked by mij (691points) January 22nd, 2009

I’m kind of curious? Do you keep stats?
Are the majority of users Americans?
What about age groups? Oldies verses teeny’s, or the in betweens?
Is it one big ethnic mix?
And does everyone really have Scottish ancestry?

@augustlan How do they get those stats? How do they know about me? I understand that they know where I am via IP, but I really don’t put many other stats out there about myself. It’s not in my profile or anything.

Now this will be ironic:
I’m mostly German with a wee bit of Norwegian
I live in the Chicagoland area
I am completely male last time I checked Reference to ica’s “all girl” comment, haha
and I’m a student and do computer work on the side

augustlan's avatar

@TheBox193 I truly have no idea where they get their data. The site was referenced in another question…that’s the only way I even knew it existed :)

TheBox193's avatar

What? That Quantcast site says <1% Addicts. I don’t know about the reliability of that data. haha.

Fluther, LLC has been widely rumored to be a front for the “Gaelic Liberation Army”, a shadowy and loosely-organized international network of Scottish “resistance fighters” who’s stated aim is to “overthrow the trousered tyranny” (their Gaelic motto, Siud Saor a Basaich, can be roughly translated as “Swing Free or Die”). They stop at nothing to achieve their goals, but their preferred tactic is hurling telephone poles (AKA “Frizzers”) at people in pants.

The founders of Fluther deny any connection to the clandestine organization, but Interpol sources point out that “Fluther” is how residents of the Firth of Forth, where the GLA is centered, refer to themselves.

While innocent people, unaware of Fluther’s hidden agenda, are allowed to frequent the site (thus lending it an air of authenticity), the core GLA members (AKA “The Collective”) communicate to each other in coded messages that are indecipherable to the uninitiated.

Those stats are interesting, but like others I am dubious about them. Tracking hits and movement of traffic is one thing (and easily done, thanks to cookies), but race, age, income, and family size? I have never given such information in relation to my Fluther signon name, my actual e-mail address, or my IP address. Have you? How can this be anything but guesswork?
