Has receiving kindness from others given you pain?

I just had to tell my studio that I wouldn’t be going there for a while, that I had to sort out some things before I would be able to be of a dancing mindset. That was hard. So so hard.
Harder, though, was to get nothing in response but kindness and understanding, hearing things like “it will only make you stronger” “we understand” “know that you are loved”. It’s good. It’s surprising. They’re being nothing but supportive. But it hurt to hear. Which it shouldn’t. it’s confusing.
I think it would feel better, almost, if they were mad. I’m dropping out days before some upcoming performances of ours. I would be mad, if I were them. Wouldn’t I? Wouldn’t you?

So I’m wondering, have you experienced that before? Where the sympathy only felt like thorns? Of a rose, there’s a bud above, but you’re holding the thorny stem they handed you.
Have you felt warmly to someone when they’re causing disruption? Handed them a well-meaning rose?
