Did Jon Stewart get the Zadroga bill passed?

The Zadroga bill (H.R.847), which provided health care money for 9/11 responders, passed the Senate right before their term ended.
It got virtually no media attention. It got no mention from the president. It floated around the senate for months. Jon Stewart devotes several shows to bring attention to it, and suddenly there is interest and it passes.
Additional questions: how much influence does Jon Stewart have? Is he doing a job the media should be doing?
