How do I keep her media player out of my iTunes (and vice versa)?

I have an iPod, my partner has an MP3 player. Suddenly, her song list and my song list are getting mixed together. Any idea why these programs are getting mixed up, and how to keep them apart? (Keep in mind, I’m technologically handicapped.)
