How can I fix a jumpy mouse?

My mate has an old computer P111 and when he loads games on it if it has a built in mouse controller, the mouse sensitivity is bad and jumps from point to point. I’ve tried a USB mouse same thing, I can slow the jumps by Alt Tab. I need a mouse driver? but all the new mice don’t have drivers with them, any ideas.
