What are your thoughts about charter schools?

So my 6 year old daughter recently won the lottery and was accepted in a brand new charter school here in my city, it just opened up this past September. The school is called Harmony School of Innovation and they specialize in math, science and technology. I was curious if anyone here has any of their children in a charter school? Are they that much better than a “regular” public school? Does your child seem like they have benefited from going to one? What have your or your child’s experience with a charter been like? Are they just overrated?
