What movie had people getting slapped on TV?

I remember this scene clear as day, but I dont know what movie it was. A guy gets slapped by a chick (his girlfriend I think) Then, to try to forget it he turns on the TV and every channel he goes to has someone getting slapped on it. One scene was from cheers. Diane slapping Sam.
