Have you ever developed a "late in life" phobia?

Asked by WillWorkForChocolate (23163points) May 10th, 2011

I’m a licensed massage therapist and I was fine all through schooling and my internship. Afterward though, a creepy sensation slowly snuck up on me and kept getting worse until I realized I can’t really give massage anymore, unless it’s a friend or family member.

I’d never had a problem with it before, but now every time I even THINK about giving massage to strangers, I shudder. I’ve developed this icky phobia of touching people. The thought of working as an LMT now makes me want to gag.

It was never an issue until about the last year or so, and it’s frustrating. Maybe I’ve just developed an aversion to “strangers”?

Have you ever suddenly felt “afraid” of something that you used to be fine with?
