What's your reaction to Jim Tressel resigning at Ohio State?

I’ll get it started.
I am a Buckeye fan. Tressel has been a good coach. It’s all sort of sad. It has the makings of tragedy. I will miss him.

Of course, he needed to go. He clearly not only broke protocol with the NCAA, but he openly lied in communications with the organization. People who know him say that he did it to protect some of his (obviously) dumb players. This has been his history, to feel parental towards young men who seem to be the most clueless and futureless. In some contexts, this would be virtuous.
But not to the extent that one ignores and even disrespects a very powerful NCAA.
At that point, one gets fired or resigns.

Having said that I am becoming increasingly disouraged and disgusted by the amoral, corrupt, and narcissistic young athletes who are showing up in increasing numbers to play sports in universities, but who otherwise contribute little, and who so carelessly disrupt and complicate the lives of coaches, athletic directors, presidents, trustees and directors, not to mention taxpayers as regards OSU.

I sort of hope the interim coach has the good sense, or the balls, to tell the mildly brain dead athletes, who are at the heart of this sad story, to seek their futures elsewhere. It’s fun to watch a winner on the field or the court. But not so fun that it is worth making a Faustian deal with a bunch of creepazoids and goons.
