Is it only around here, or is the Farmer's Market really expensive this year?

I love getting fresh, pesticide-free produce and poultry, so I look forward to the Farmer’s Market opening every year. This year, the prices are really high; almost triple what you pay in the regular grocery store.

I know a lot of our local producers were affected by flooding early in the year but there was a lot available – for a price. I was really disappointed that I couldn’t afford everything I wanted.

Is this happening everywhere? What could be driving up the costs? Price of fuel? Higher demand for organic foods (green movement)?
